Rise & Speak Student Performances ~ Saturday, February 28th @ 3pm-5pm

Come enjoy stories of love, hope and transformation!

Rise & Speak was a life changing journey of a workshop where participants were asked to craft a message the uplifts, inspires, and educates the audience about some lesson or blessing they received as part of having navigated the defining moments in their life.

The students not only learned how to put together a powerful message and storytelling techniques, but also tried and true speaking methods to manage stage fright and connect to their audience.

These performances will be the conclusion of the workshop, and are sure to stir inspiration and transformation for attendees.

We can't wait to meet you!

Alternatives To Violence Workshop ~ Saturday, March 7th & 14th @ 8:30am-5pm

AVP (Alternatives to Violence Project) Basic Workshop is a fast-paced, fun experience where we connect with others, laugh, share, and listen deeply. Facilitators are all volunteers; we participate as equals in the workshops, where we learn new skills in communication, empathy, self-understanding, and more.

In this workshop you will:

  • Learn new ways to make real changes in your life, your relationships, and your community.
  • Look for and affirm the good in ourselves and others.
  • Listen deeply and without judgment; share what we are comfortable with.
  • Laugh together. A lot.
  • Refrain from put-downs, of ourselves or others.
  • Do not interrupt, give advice, or speak too often or too long.
  • Volunteer information about ourselves ONLY as we choose to.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality; what is said in the group stays in the group.
  • Give everyone a right to pass on a particular exercise if they choose to.

AVP was started in 1975 by Quakers and prisoners in New York. Workshops are  held in the community, in schools, and in jails and prisons worldwide, and have been shown to reduce bullying, recidivism and prison violence.

AVP is not a religious group, but helps participants to access what we call "Transforming Power" (which some think of as God, the Soul, or our Highest Self) - the part of ourselves that makes wiser, more compassionate choices. This leads to improvements in our lives and relationships.

For those who would like to attend this 2 day workshop, please email office@sierracenter.org or call (530) 274-1018. Feel free to leave a message and we will get you signed up, as space is limited to 30 people.
Meals and snacks provided!

Dates: March 7th & 14th, 2026
Time: 8:30am-5pm
