"Seva, selfless service, is a powerful spiritual practice. It is not a question of what you are doing, but of how, why and for whom you are doing it. To wake up in the morning aware that you are doing so in order to serve illuminates the joy of living. If there is awareness of the service, you transform the ‘doing’ into a prayer; into a way of keeping the flame of connection lit and making it stronger." Sri Prem Baba
Throughout the year there are many opportunities to serve here at the Center, as well as the community at large.
Purpose & Mission
It takes a village... we believe in unity. It is our intention to not only serve our own spiritual community, but to be a light in our local community, as well as a light in the global community. This year's theme is "Willing to Rise." We invite you to rise to the opportunity of service and receive the blessings that always come with freely giving of yourself.
SEVA Team: Lenda DeAnn 530-575-1105
This is the team that shows up on Sunday morning for one service to make the coffee, cut the bagels and fruits, take up the offering, greet people and hand out bulletins. You can sign up to be on call to fill in when someone is ill or on vacation, or sign up to do one service per month on a regular basis. It is very little work, and greatly rewarding. Plus you get to see everyone and get to know folks better!
Congregant Care: Lisette De Miranda 530-477-0579
This is the team that takes meals to congregants who have had surgery, or are ill, or otherwise need care. They may also provide an occasional ride to an appointment, send a card, or provide other help that is needed in these situations. If you have a compassionate heart, love to cook, love to drive, love to help others -- give Lisette a call!
Youth Ministries: Geneveive Mack 530- 559-2814
Do you love kids? (Who doesn't!) Can you picture a world where children are taught the principles of Science of Mind from a very early age? Wouldn't you love to part of fulfilling that vision? Please contact Genevieve if you can teach or assist one Sunday a month or more in our Jr. Church.
Events Team: Phil Hart 530-272-6870
This is the team that helps to plan fundraisers, put on concerts, and promote our Center in the greater local community. If you would like to "Champion" and Event (as in be 100% responsible for it), or participate on this team in any way, please contact Phil.
Our bookstore is open every Sunday after services and is staffed by volunteers who simply take care of people wishing to purchase books, cards, jewelry or other items that may be available for sale at the time. If you'd like to help in the bookstore, please contact Sue.
Our center is cleaned once a week by volunteers. If you'd like to be one of them, call Eric!
If you like to plant things, tend a garden and create beauty, call Lisette.
Want an easy way to make a difference and be of service in your community? Sign up to push the buttons for the slides that support our Sunday Morning services. You're going to be here anyway, right? Call Herb.
Sound Team: Call the office 530-274-1018
This is the team that takes care of the sound and recording for Sunday Services. Even if you haven't done this before, you can be trained to run the sound board and help make the music sound great. This team will soon have a new team leader, so until then, please call the office if you are interested.
Sunday Flowers Team: Linda High 530-272-2355
If you would like to provide flowers for a Sunday service in memory of someone or in honor of a celebration, call Linda. You would also be welcome to join her in providing flowers on a more regular basis and helping to bring the beauty to our services each week.
If you have any other gifts or services to offer the community, please contact the SCSL office during our Office Hours.
THANK YOU for all that you are and all that you do!
