Qualifications for Board Members

  1. Commitment and passion to fulfill the vision of our center as set forth by Religious Science International: Inspiring People to Live Spiritually Awakened Lives
  2. Active Member of the Sierra Center for Positive Living preferably with a minimum of one year of involvement in serving the SCPL community.
  3. Completed one year accredited SOM classes, actively takes classes through SCPL and applies the SOM teachings to their life.
  4. An abundance consciousness and has demonstrated consistent financial support of the Sierra Center, and if not currently tithing, moving in the direction of doing so.
  5. Regular attendance at services (75% of the time)
  6. Has demonstrated an ability to lead, work well on a team, and follow through to completion of projects.
  7. Commitment to attend monthly Board meetings and Annual General Membership meetings.
  8. Willingness to be accountable for the oversight and support of a specific ministry and/or area within our church organization.
  9. Has no major challenges or commitments in their personal or business life that would prevent them from honoring their commitments and responsibilities as an SCPL Board member.
  10. Agrees to complete a full three year term. Board members may consider a second term. Following the second term, the member must step down from the board for a period of at least one year.
  11. Has the support of family members for board participation.

Board members are called to fulfill the following commitments:

  1. Values our Center as a loving, spiritual home that encourages and supports all who come here in developing their spiritual awareness and treats that this is so.
  2. Agrees to experience service on the Board as a tool for growth and enjoyment
  3. Interacts with the congregation to support our sacred community, create fellowship and strengthen connections between the board and the congregation.
  4. Supports, and attends whenever possible, the activities socials, classes and seminars of SCPL.
  5. Lovingly volunteers time and talent to further the growth and consciousness of our Center.
  6. Supports the minister and reflects that support to the congregation.
  7. Accepts responsibility to act as a "department leader" or liaison by familiarizing and supporting the policies, practices of that department.
  8. Provides training to team members accordingly and as needed.
  9. Commits to working to achieve alignment in decision making which includes the responsibility to communicate (ideas and feelings) and the responsibility to listen graciously.
  10. Agrees to respect the confidentiality of communications during the conduct of Board business.
